La Esperanza Baking Company roots in Cuba

La Esperanza Baking Company’s origins in Cuba

Established in 1949, the La Esperanza Baking Company has thrived for decades based on the founder’s philosophy that “no order is ever too small”.

Born in La Esperanza, Cuba, Heriberto Santos came to the United States as a young boy and worked in bakeries as a teenager. After serving in World War II, he opened his own business on Wilkins Avenue in the Bronx, where his primary customers were Latin restaurants and bodegas in Manhattan and the Bronx. His daughter Elena started working in the company thirty years later to learn the family business.

What started as a small bakery with a single truck has grown to a fully automated bakery in Englewood, NJ with a fleet of trucks supplying fresh bread and rolls throughout the NY metropolitan area, including the 5 boroughs,  Northern New Jersey, Westchester and Nassau County.  The founder’s hard work and appreciation for his customers has been passed down to the next generation and his daughter, Elena Queiruga, along with her husband Francisco and brother-in-law Peter Rodsan, runs the La Esperanza Baking Company with the same philosophy.
